Brett Martel The Associated PressMETAIRIE, La. (AP) -- No one drafted Sammy Knight out of Southern California, and the NFL team that wound up signing him as a free agent was so bad that fans wore brown grocery bags over their heads."We deserved a couple brown bags by the way we played, but a group of guys came in and really transformed that team and the mentality of the players and the mentality the city Christian Louboutin Flats," Knight said. "I was just happy to be part of it. We would always sit around and talk about, 'We're not going to stand for this. We're not going to be the doormat of the league. We want to turn this franchise around. We want to win."'A couple years later, Knight was the starting safety of the first Saints team ever to win a playoff game in the 2000 season. On Tuesday, he was introduced as the lone 2011 inductee into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame.Knight, who played 12 years in the NFL, spent his first six seasons with New Orleans, leading the Saints in interceptions in five of those. He intercepted 28 passes for the Saints, placing him third in that category in franchise history. Knight was also chosen as a Pro Bowl starter in 2001 and remains the Saints' all-time leader in interception returns for touchdowns with four. The New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame, located in the Louisiana Superdome, announces new inductees each spring and holds induction ceremonies in the fall.Recent inductees include Joe Horn cheap Ralph Lauren clothing, Morten Andersen and Willie Roaf. The first two players inducted were Archie Manning and Danny Abramowicz in 1988.The organization also gives an annual Joe Gemelli Fleur de Lis award to a person who was not a player, coach or top front office official, but who nonetheless has a long record of contributions to the franchise. This year it went to retired broadcaster Bruce Miller Abercrombie and Fitch Polos, who worked in sports media for 50 years and covered the Saints for two decades. Knight left New Orleans as a free agent in 2003, but called that a mutual business decision and said he never had any hard feelings toward the franchise. In retrospect, the decision to let Knight go looked like a mistake by the Saints and then-coach Jim Haslett.Knight intercepted 14 more passes in his next five seasons, during which he started two seasons for Miami, two for Kansas City and one for Jacksonville. He spent his final season in 2009 as a reserve with the New York Giants in 2008, and has since returned to USC as an assistant coach. As a Saint, his other highlights included nine fumble recoveries jimmy choo bags, with one returned for a score, along with five forced fumbles. The date for Knight's induction is pending while he seeks an opening in his schedule with USC that would allow him to return to New Orleans to be honored during the weekend of a Saints home game. In any event, he said he looks forward to coming back and being with Saints fans again." New Era Minnesota Twins Hats;I have plenty of fond memories, but I think the most important thing that really stood out for me was the passion New Orleans Saints fans had for football," Knight said. "The one thing I missed about New Orleans more than anything was the relationship you had with the fans. Only in New Orleans you could really walk down the street and sit on a stoop and have a cold drink and crawfish and sit and talk about the game."You know you might have blown a coverage, but you knew they still had your back and that you were going to come back and fight for them the next week," Knight continued. "They really felt like they were part of the team. Whenever New Orleans lost, a night on the town was not the same. People were down. But if you got the big win, especially against Atlanta, it was a party Gianmarco Lorenzi Shoes. People were dancing out in the streets."(Copyright 2011 by The Associated Press.
