with rioting a week ago in the central city of Meikhtila that was sparked by a dispute between a Muslim gold shop owner and his Buddhist customers. The New Light of Myanmar newspaper said Tuesday that eight more bodies were found in Meikhtila as soldiers cleared devastated areas set ablaze by anti-Muslim mobs during three days of rioting, bringing the death toll to 40. State TV said Tuesday that although calm had been restored in Meikhtila, a 7 p.m. to 4 a,cheapest toms shoes.m. curfew has been imposed to prevent any new violence. Amid fears of spreading violence, shop owners in Yangon, about 550 kilometers (340 miles) south of Meikhtila, were told to close Monday evening by 8:30 p.m. or 9 p.m. The fears appeared unfounded, but most Yangon shops were closed Tuesday for a national holiday. The upsurge in sectarian unrest casts a shadow over President Thein Sein's administration as it struggles to make democratic changes after a half-century of military rule. Hundreds of people were killed last year and more than 100,000 made homeless in sectarian violence in western Myanmar between ethnic Rakhine Buddhists and Muslim Rohingyas. By MOHAMED ESAM, Associated Press TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) A Libyan security official says nearly 50 inmates have fled a prison in an oasis city in the country's southern desert, and authorities shot one dead during the escape. The security official said the inmates broke out of the prison in Sabha early Tuesday. He said prison guards fired warning shots to stop them, which resulted in the death of one. Two others were injured. The official said nine inmates were arrested while authorities continue the search for 36 others. The official said the prisoners were rioting against what they said were bad prison conditions, setting fire to their cells, and breaking up doors. He said they jumped over the prison wall. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. By MARIA CHENG,discount toms shoes, Associated Press LONDON (AP) The harsh spending cuts introduced by European governments to tackle their crippling debt problems have not only pitched the region into recession they are also being partly blamed for outbreaks of diseases not normally seen in Europe and a spike in suicides, according to new research. Since the crisis first struck in 2008, state-run welfare and health services across Europe have seen their budgets cut, medical treatments rationed and unpopular measures such as hospital user fees introduced. Those countries that have slashed public spending the hardest namely Greece, Spain and Portugal have fared the worst medically.
