Teen creates care packages
Surrounded by cardboard boxes, teddy bears and chaos, Sophia GranRuaz is in her element.
The Grade 12 student, clad in a green turtle neck and a bulky brown sweater, walked around the Mississauga Valley Community Centre with two sharpie markers as volunteers sorted books, sidewalk chalk and teddy bears into care packages for children at shelters across the GTA michael kors watches.
"We went to Brinks' corporate office and she passed around Duotangs and made this presentation," said her stepfather Murray Glover michael kors handbags, who works at Brinks. "This guy just looked at me and asked louis vuitton bags, 'Is she for real louis vuitton handbags?'"
Not old enough to volunteer, GranRuaz started Snug as a Bug, Kids Helping Kids in 2004 to comfort children in shelters. The idea was personal GranRuaz and her mother stayed in a shelter when she was an infant.
Although Brinks agreed to deliver the care packages, a lot of companies said no that first year.
"She just didn't care," her mother Svenja GranRuaz said. "I think if she was older the 'no's' would have got to her,"
Now 17 michael kors bags, this year did prove a bit more stressful.
Pencil crayons and book donations fell through. GranRuaz gave her own nearlynew books michael kors purses, and a teacher from her high school chipped in. The pencil crayons had to be purchased with a corporate donation.
"We watched the entire Rome series (on television) while we sorted them into bags," her mother said.
The supply of stuffed animals is limitless. They come from a donor who chooses to remain anonymous. It takes the family two days to sort through the bears, ducks and marsupials.
"Some of them are really big. We had this one kangaroo that took up the whole box michael kors handbags," Danielle Lenarduzzi said as she packed a bag for a little girl. Lenarduzzi met Sophia in Grade 9, and has been kneedeep in plush ever since.
GranRuaz's charity will do that to you.
Doug Struthers, GranRuaz's former geography teacher at John Cabot Catholic Secondary School, sorted moisturizer michael kors bags, magazines and fake eyelashes for the teenage girl care package.
"When you teach kids prada bags, sometimes they think one person can't make a difference," Struthers said michael kors purses. "But if everyone chips in prada outlet, it turns into this."
Every item in the care package is hardwon. The moisturizer Struthers was packing came after GranRuaz posed for a Vervegirl magazine story about her charity.
"There was a wind machine, and hair extensions," she said of the shoot that led to connections with make up suppliers louis vuitton bags. "I hope nobody sees it louis vuitton wallet."
"People always say to me, 'Oh you must be so proud,'" Svenja GranRuaz said. "But kids just want to help. If you asked a 10yearold, 'Do you want to do something?' They'd say yes.".
