ing their own traditions and cultures.WSJ: How does this broad range of voters affect your job?Deora: Some see me as a federal legislator and others see me as a local mayor.Often the less-affluent constituents that you would assume are less informed are actually more informed on national issues (and ask about the party’s national policy), where the more affluent see me as a local mayor. With the affluent, if I go to a town hall meeting, they want me to fix potholes. The poor wouldn’t ask me that because they know that isn’t my job.The rich’s dependence on politicians is smaller than it is for the poor,tomsoutletsalecheap.com, so they are less informed. Around the world the poor have a much greater stake in politics.WSJ: Mr. Obama is struggling with the clash of different ideas about policies in the U.S,cheap toms shoes. Do you have any advice for him on how to deal with the differences?Deora: What I have really learned as a politician representing such as large, diverse group of people is you have to set your priorities and really stick with them.I represent more than 1.8 million voters and I think in the end managing expectations is about sticking to what you want to do.Only time will tell whether (Obama) was right or wrong with his economic policy, foreign policy and insurance policy but he is sticking with it and I respect that.WSJ: What does India expect from Mr. Obama?Deora: The average Indian is sort of neutral about their opinion of him. That is because in India he is perceived as more acceptable than his predecessors but he is not seen as someone that is bringing something unique to India.Bush and Clinton brought some excitement but Obama seems to be very careful so there seems to be nothing new or unique happening. He should restore India’s faith in America with regards to their policy with countries in the region. That is really how India will ultimately judge him. That is how Bush got judged and Clinton got judged.Positive feelings from the colorful visit will only last while you are here. Cracking a joke or two and saying “I love India” and stuff like that, I don’t get excited about. He knows that India is the U.S.’s long-term partner and I’m sure he would want to strengthen that relationship more than any other country in the region.WSJ: What about his stance on outsourcing and the business relationship between the two countries?Deora: The media will be interested in outsourcing but I don’t think it is an issue at all. We know it is a political issue back home for the U.S. and that’s it,toms outlet. They probably didn’t choose (to visit) Bangalore because of what is happening back home.Businessmen tell me they are happy to meet and shake hands and take a photograph (with Obama) but they are not expecting much out of the visit. They say, “If I want to do business then I can do it without him.”People shouldn’t expect the U.S. President to come to India to facilitate trade. Hopefully he will understand that those are not things that will sell well here. Add a Comment Error message Name We welcome thoughtful comments from readers. P Related articles:
